Carleton Park is a lovely 11 acre park on the northside of the St. John River which offers a tremendous view of the sunsets over the City. Today this park features a well-used boat launch and its trails leads you in front of Ducks UnLimited. One can easlily access the Walking Bridge from here and future plans are to link this trail with that of the North Riverfront.
Originally this land was an integral part of the Village of Gibson, later to be known as South Devon. In 1888, it was used as the site for unloading granite to build the first train bridge across the Saint John River at Fredericton. Following the Gibson Fire in 1893, the area was used for 50 years by a succession of lumber mills. During the last quarter of the 19th Century the site was also used as a railway yard. Carleton Park was developed after the Town of Devon amalgamated with the City of Fredericton in 1945.
